[Design Talk Series] Consciousness of Production : Ethical Solutions for Design

[Design Talk Series - Sustainable Design & Eco-Living]

How does that work? How is this being produced? Who is behind it?

If your curiosity is keeping you awake at night, MTRL HK and WOMB are here to cure your insomnia. We are happy to invite you to a series of design talks focusing and de-coding design. But not just any design - we invite you to participate in talks, lectures and discussions about sustainable design. Prepare to learn more about conscious production methods, green manufacturers and companies who actively fight to reduce their waste.

The first event in the series will focus on the technical part of every design, namely the production process. We want to present to you those, who take matters into their own hands, rather than complaining about poor materials that are available. Dyeing takes too much water? Let’s find a way to reduce the amount by 95%. Filament for the 3D printer is ugly and plastic? Let’s find someone who makes it colourful and biodegradable. We are bringing these mindsets to you, so please, by all means – pick their brains a little!

Any contribution during the event, be that active discussion or inner reflection, are all more than welcome. Let’s have some drinks and brainstorm!

FREE Entry. Seats are limited, please sign up quick.

About WOMB

WOMB was born out of absence. The absence of options for those who do not want to buy cheap clothes made in South East Asia, leather and fur garments and accessories, easily breakable home ware, fabrics of uncertain origin, sewn by people who are not even paid for their labor. We wish to promote a new form of consumer consciousness for design - ethical, educated, sustainable. WOMB is a brand for those who care.

About Cosmos Studio

Cosmos Studio is a sustainable fashion start up based in Hong Kong which uses their own-invented dyeing technology in producing minimal and contemporary clothing. Different from traditional dyeing, they "print" reactive dyes onto the cotton threads in 360 degrees, thus avoiding the process of repeatedly dipping garment in dyeing tubs. This colour diffusion technology is capable of saving 95% of water as well as effluent. Their vision is to create collections with such highly sustainable practices and replace the traditional production globally as they challenge the existing practices of the industry.

About UAU Project

UAU project is a multidisciplinary design studio based in Warsaw, Poland. Founded in 2011 by Justyna Fałdzińska & Miłosz Dąbrowski, graduates from Industrial Design Faculty on Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. Their main interest is exploring and experimenting with consumer oriented 3D printing for use in home production. They want to show that 3D printing is the best way to make good design accessible. UAU develops their products with passion and commitment, with only the best quality materials. The environment is of utmost importance to UAU, so most of the materials they use are either biodegradable or highly recyclable.
